Embrace the e-book, Stephen King. It is not for an author to tell his readers how to read - Comment - Voices - The Independent
The guy can do what ever he wants with his books I guess. Personally I think this is mostly a publicity stunt. Over on Amazon it says:
I love crime, I love mysteries, and I love ghosts. That combo made Hard Case Crime the perfect venue for this book, which is one of my favorites. I also loved the paperbacks I grew up with as a kid, and for that reason, we’re going to hold off on e-publishing this one for the time being. Joyland will be coming out in paperback, and folks who want to read it will have to buy the actual book. [my emphasis]
The operative phrase here to me is “for the time being”. I’m sure he may actually believe what he said to some extent, but judging by his previous stunts, and how everyone has responded to this? Yeah, I’m going with brilliant media stunt. I’d say we’ll see an e-book version well in time for the Holiday sales, if not even by late summer.
